YouTube Improves Playlist Embedding

Labels: ,

The other day I was talking about downloading videos from YouTube playlists. Today, Google posted a new update that improves the way webmasters and bloggers embed YouTube playlists on blog posts and websites.

Google launched support for embedding lists of videos in the YouTube player in March this year. However, it was pointed out that at first glance it didn’t look very much like a playlist. Visually there is little difference between an embedded single YouTube video and an embedded playlist. For example, this is how an embedded playlist looks like.

Now there is a new parameter showinfo=1 which when added to the embedded code will permanently display a list of video thumbnails at the bottom of the video player. Here’s how the new video player looks.

What is done here is the parameter &showinfo=1 added at the end of the video URL like this:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?list=PL107D27A98190A54F&showinfo=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
